Why This Plan Works

- Gives a charming vintage look
- Great for hands-on crafters of all experience levels
- Can be customized in size, bulb type, and finish
- Functional and decorative
What You Will Need
- Low-wattage light bulb (try warm and cool tones)
- Electrical plug
- Fevicol or strong craft glue
- Lamp holder and ring (1 set)
- Electrical wire (2 feet)
- Around 100 Popsicle sticks
- Scissors
Step 1. Build the Squares
Start by forming the basic shape. Glue four Popsicle sticks together at the ends to form a square. Make sure opposite edges are aligned in height. Repeat to create 10 identical squares. Allow them to dry completely.
Step 2. Create the Base
Stack and glue two of your squares directly on top of one another. This layered square forms the sturdy base of the lampshade.
Step 3. Construct the Spiral
Take the remaining eight squares and begin stacking them over the base at a slight angle to each other.
Glue each new square slightly rotated compared to the previous one.
This angled stacking will automatically form a spiral design. Let this lower section dry thoroughly.
Step 4. Shape the Hexagon Top
Trim the ends of your Popsicle sticks to create angled edges for the hexagonal pattern. Begin by forming a small hexagon with six sticks.
Alternate the height of each stick as you glue, ensuring symmetry. Continue placing sticks around the shape, moving outward and securing each one with glue. Let it dry.
Step 5. Build Upward Walls
Once the outer hexagon is set, begin gluing sticks vertically, rising from the hexagon’s edges. Maintain the hexagonal shape while stacking upward to reach your desired lamp height.
Step 6. Finish by Moving Inward
After building enough vertical height, start gluing Popsicle sticks inward, still following the hexagon pattern. This step gently closes off the top of the structure, giving it a sculptural form.
Step 7. Attach the Lamp Holder
Glue the hexagon structure onto the square spiral base and allow it to dry. Flip the structure upside down.
Glue two Popsicle sticks across the center opening at the bottom to support the lamp holder. Then, flip it right side up and secure the lamp holder inside with the ring.
Step 8. Add the Light and Enjoy
Insert the bulb of your choice into the lamp holder. Try using different colored bulbs to see how they cast light through the wood structure. The glowing effect through the sticks gives off a beautiful vintage-style ambiance.
Note: Always use a low-wattage bulb to prevent overheating. Make sure the lamp holder is tightly secured and never leave the lamp unattended while lit.
